It's a Valentine's gift from the heavens.  On Jan. 2, 2025, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched the Love Locket to the stratosphere onboard a cosmic ray research balloon. At the apex of the flight, it floated like a cloud 100,515 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California, experiencing temperatures as low as -63 C and an air pressure less than 0.2% of sea level.
 
Featuring highlights of 925 sterling silver and red acrylic, the heart itself is made of durable copper. It is openable, lockable,  and can hold small items inside. The locket comes with a greeting card showing the jewelry in flight and telling the story of its journey to the edge of space.
