This cat has experienced a severe geomagnetic storm. A CME hit Earth's magnetic field during the weekend on Sept. 16th. The students of Earth to Sky Calculus quickly launched a cosmic ray balloon into the resulting severe geomagnetic storm. The Mooncat went along for the ride.
The sterling silver cat is curled around a genuine blue moonstone. It floated through the stratosphere for almost 3 hours during the storm, gathering radiation data for the students' monitoring program. The flight's peak altitude was 105,005 feet. After the balloon exploded (as planned) the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing in the Saline Range, a ridge of 9000 ft peaks near Death Valley National Park.
The pendant comes with a greeting card showing the cat in flight and telling the story of its journey to the stratosphere and back.
