This is *real* money. From space.

The US Mint has just released a new set of  $1 coins commemorating NASA's astronaut core. On July 31, 2025, we flew them to the edge of space. The coins hitched a ride onboard a cosmic ray research balloon, floating 113,949 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California.

The coin's design features an American astronaut conducting a spacewalk outside the International Space Station. The station's robotic arm (Thank you, Canada!), solar arrays, and science modules surround the floating spaceman.

You can have a rare, unbroken roll for $299.95. Each coin weighs 8 grams of 6% zinc, 4% manganese, 2% nickel, and 88% copper. You'll also receive a greeting card showing the roll in flight and telling the story of its journey to the stratosphere and back again.
