On Jan. 24, 2026, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched a cosmic ray balloon to the stratosphere. This hand-crafted "rainbow rose" went along for the ride. At the apex of the flight, the holographic bloom was 114,323 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California, touching the edge of space.

After the balloon exploded (as planned), the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing on the outskirts of Death Valley National Park. The rose had a wild ride, and the students collected great data for their cosmic-ray monitoring program.

Included with your purchase is a greeting card showing the rose in flight and telling the story of its journey to the stratosphere and back again. It makes a  great Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or romantic birthday gift.
