The crystal monolith comes from the edge of space, and it is bearing a message: "I love you to the Moon and Back."
On April 23, 2025, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched this laser-etched full Moon to the stratosphere onboard a giant helium balloon. It comes with an LED stand that produces a soothing glow. You can select from four colors--soft white, red, green, or blue.
The crystal traveled to the stratosphere alongside an array of cosmic ray sensors, which the students use to monitor atmospheric radiation. At the apex of the flight, it floated 109,227 ft above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California. After the balloon exploded (as planned), the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing in Eureka Valley on the outskirts of Death Valley National Park.
The gift-boxed crystal comes with a unique gift card showing it floating at the top of Earth’s atmosphere. The card's interior tells the story of the flight and confirms that this item has been to the edge of space and back again.
