This dragonfly has touched space.  On Aug. 22, 2025, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched it to the stratosphere onboard a cosmic ray research balloon, 105,108 feet above California's Sierra Nevada mountains.

Made of genuine Baltic Amber with a sterling silver exoskeleton, the rich Cognac-colored pendant measures 3/4 inch and comes with a matching 18-inch sterling silver chain.

During the 2.0 hour flight, the pendant experienced temperatures as low as -61 C and air pressures less than 0.09% of sea level. According to onboard radiation sensors, cosmic ray levels were 100 times Earth-normal as the pendant reached the top of our planet’s atmosphere and touched the edge of space. After the balloon exploded (as planned), the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing near the Eureka Dunes in Death Valley National Park

The students are selling space pendants to pay the helium bill for their cosmic ray ballooning program. Each one comes with a greeting card showing the jewelry in flight and telling the story of its trip to the stratosphere and back again.
