You can't buy this on Amazon. The Alien Ransom Christmas Ornament is only available from the Earth to Sky Store. On Sept. 15, 2025, it flew to the stratosphere onboard a cosmic ray research balloon, reaching an altitude of 101,148 feet above the Sierra Nevada mountains of central California.
 
Hand-sculpted in the USA, this humorous ornament boasts intricate details, from the alien pilot to Santa's boots in the back seat. Durable polyresin construction makes it lightweight enough to hang on any tree but sturdy enough to last for many Christmases to come. 
 
The ornament floated in the stratosphere for 3 hours while radiation sensors inside the payload gathered data for the students' radiation monitoring project. After the balloon exploded, as planned, the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing near Green Lake in the Sierra backcountry.
 
The ornament comes with a Christmas card showing the spaceship in flight, and certifying that it has traveled to the edge of space and back again.
