How do you go to the bathroom in space? The space toilet, of course!
On Oct. 6, 2019, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched this unique ornament to the stratosphere onboard one of their cosmic ray balloons. Frosty the Toilet flew 108,893 feet above Earth's surface, touching the edge of space alongside an array of X-ray/gamma-ray sensors, which the students use to monitor atmospheric radiation. After the balloon exploded, as planned, the payload parachuted back to Earth, landing in Eureka Valley on the edge of Death Valley National Park. The students got great data and Frosty had a wild ride!
Each ornament comes with a greeting card showing Frosty in space. The inside flap tells the story of the flight and confirms that the ornament has traveled to the edge of space and back again.
