On Jan. 15th, the students of Earth to Sky Calculus launched a cosmic ray research balloon to the stratosphere. This premium pearl necklace went along for the ride, flying 111,202 feet above central California's snow-capped Sierra Nevada mountains.
The freshwater pearl measures 10 mm in diameter and is held in an 18K white gold-plated clasp decorated with a crystalline splash of emerald-green cubic zirconia. The entire pendant is suspended from a matching 925 Sterling Silver chain.
The pearl spent two hours in the stratosphere as sensors in the payload measured cosmic rays. After the balloon popped, as planned, the pearl parachuted back to Earth, landing near the peak of Little Mount Inyo on the outskirts of Death Valley National Park.
The pearl comes with a greeting card showing the necklace in flight and telling the story of its journey to the edge of space.
